Alta to Host Youngstown Fresh Food Giveaway
Alta Care Group, the Valley agency committed to the social, emotional, behavioral, educational and physical well-being of children, adolescents, young adults and families in our community, is hosting a fresh food drive for families in Youngstown.
Youngstown Fresh will be held on Saturday, April 22 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. outside of Alta’s Youngstown office located at 711 Belmont Avenue. At this inaugural event, Alta and its partners will distribute non-perishable items, food vouchers and fresh produce to youth and their families in Youngstown. This event is free and open to the community, with one bag distributed per person.
Members of the community as well as local organizations have come together in support of Alta’s Youngstown Fresh including NAMI Ohio, Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation Youth Grants, YSU Student Social Work Association, Gordon Brothers Water, Youngstown Mobile Market, and several local grocery stores. Perishable items were collected during a drive in February by Alta Behavioral Healthcare, Alta Head Start, Gordon Brothers Water and the YSU Student Social Work Association.
Youngstown Fresh was developed to help address data from the 2021 census, showing that 35.3% of Youngstown’s population is considered in poverty, with 21.8% of the population under the age of 18. “At Alta, we’re eager to do our part to help address the limited access to affordable and nutritious food that many families in our community face. And thanks to the generous support of so many in our Valley, we know that Youngstown Fresh will make an impact,” Gianna Pupino, Certified Youth/Adult Peer Recovery Specialist at Alta and Youngstown Fresh Organizer, said.
