Grants Will Fund Alta’s UPSTREAM Program
Alta Care Group’s UPSTREAM Program will benefit from two recent grants. The program received $10,336 from The United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley, as well as $5,000 from PNC Bank.
UPSTREAM is a home-based literacy development program for preschoolers through second grade that assists parents in becoming their child’s first learning advocates. It provides books and materials to encourage parents to engage in literacy activities with their children.
“Literacy is essential in helping a child develop a lifelong love of learning, because it opens doors and exposes them to new experiences,” said Ted Schmidt, PNC regional president for Youngstown. “Through reading, parents can better prepare their child for success in school and life, which is why PNC is happy to fund such a meaningful program.”
